Val-Pak Launches Back-to-School Computer Promotion

Val-Pak is scheduled to begin a promotion today in which it will give away personal computers and $1,000 shopping sprees in an effort to encourage consumers to open the company's co-op mail envelopes and visit its Web site.

The St. Petersburg, FL, company, a division of Cox Target Media Inc., said it would randomly insert 25 certificates for free personal computers among 50 million Val-Pak envelopes. The promotion, dubbed the "Cool Back-to-School Giveaway," also includes an online component in which consumers can visit www.valpak.com to register to win a $1,000 shopping spree at Mall.com. Twenty such shopping sprees will be awarded.

The computers will bear logos from Mattel brands Barbie and Hot Wheels. The logos of Barbie, Hot Wheels and Mall.com also will appear on the back of the Val-Pak envelopes.

Val-Pak said it would support the promotion with more than $900,000 in broadcast and cable TV advertising.
