USPS pushes back Intelligent Mail barcode implementation

The USPS is seeking comments on its proposal for new marking requirements for Parcel Select mail, according to a Federal Register notice published today. Feedback is due to the USPS by June 20.

“The proposal supports our expanded Shipping Services product line and the separation of Parcel Select from Parcel Post,” the USPS said in its notice. According to the proposal, new markings will be required on BMC-Presort or OBMC-Presort (Inter-BMC), and origin-entered Barcoded Intra-BMC and Barcoded Inter-BMC packages.

As of September 30, the “Parcel Post” marking will no longer be allowed on Parcel Select packages. However, the USPS is encouraging shippers to start using the new markings sooner rather than later.
