USPS Files for Realignment
The U.S. Postal Service has filed a case with the Postal Rate Commission on the proposed realignment of the nation's mail processing and transportation network, according to an order issued by the PRC in the Federal Register on Friday.The postal service's filing is required because the realignment is expected to affect delivery service standards. The USPS is expected to seek to consolidate facilities as part of a shift toward shape-based processing centers.
The order addresses initial steps in the case, identifies key dates and directs interested parties to the PRC Web site for pertinent documents. March 17 is the deadline for the public to file notices of intervention with the PRC. A pre-hearing conference occurs March 24.
