USPS Ends Suspension of Standard Mail in 704 Region

The U.S. Postal Service lifted its suspension of Standard and Periodicals mail yesterday for the 704 ZIP code region in Louisiana.

The suspension was prompted by damage from Hurricane Katrina last month in the Gulf Coast.

Drop-shipment appointments to this ZIP code range are being accepted, the USPS said, but appointments are required before any drop shipments can occur.

The USPS is still not accepting any Standard (letters and flats) or Periodicals mail -- from any source -- addressed for delivery within the following ZIP code ranges: Mississippi, 395; and Louisiana, 700, 701.

The agency also said that Periodicals and news publications formerly dropped at the destination area distribution center entry level into the area distribution center in New Orleans (700) should now be dropped at the Bulk Mail Center in Memphis, TN, 38999 -- excluding any mail for ZIP codes where service is suspended.
