The USA World Cup Bid Committee launched an e-mail marketing campaign October 4, asking supporters to contribute their soccer stories to boost the US' pitch to become the World Cup's host country in 2018 or 2022.

The organization worked with Blue State Digital on the effort.

David Downs, executive director of the Bid Committee, asks supporters to describe why they support the bid to bring the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) tournament to the US in the e-mail blasts.

The story of the millionth signed supporter of the petition is also featured in the e-mail. The Bid Committee's original goal was to reach 1 million petition signees.

“A number is a stat,” said Jurgen Mainka, director of marketing and communications for the Bid Committee. “[We wanted to use that] number and show that people are passionate about the cause.”

Supporters, who are asked to enter their e-mail addresses, names and ZIP codes, can share their stories, photos and videos about why they celebrate soccer.

The Bid Committee will measure the number of participants in its database who upload content, said Mainka.

He added that the Bid Committee's FIFA presentation will take place December 1 — the day before the international soccer governing body makes its decision on the 2018 host nation.
