Urban Outfitters Q1 Sales Up 59 Percent

Urban Outfitters Inc., Philadelphia, said total company sales for the first quarter climbed 59 percent from the same period last year to $170.3 million, setting a first-quarter record. The increase was driven by a 32 percent jump in total company comparable-store sales; a 24 percent increase in the number of stores, resulting in new and non-comparable store sales gains of $22.1 million; a 95 percent surge in direct-to-consumer sales; and a 47 percent rise in wholesale sales.
