UPS Acquisitions Lead to Expanded Services

United Parcel Service has added three new services designed to improve mail and package delivery for direct mailers.

Hybrid Mail is a blend of electronic and physical First-Class mail. Letters are sent electronically to a newly acquired UPS company, Mail2000, Bethesda, MD, then are printed and put into the U.S. Postal Service system nearest the final destination. This service is intended for large-volume mailers that want expedited delivery of cash-critical First-Class mail, such as bills and financial statements.

Another service, Flats, allows mailers to expedite the delivery of flats, or mail that is larger than a letter but smaller than a parcel. The service results from UPS' acquisition of Global Management Services LLC, commonly known as RMX, Reno, NV. Corporations give their flats to RMX, which presorts pieces by ZIP code and puts them into the postal system nearest the final destination.

UPS also introduced UPS Presort, a daily mail pickup service that UPS is piloting for small and midsize businesses that do not qualify for postage discounts.
