UPDATE: Privacy Council Teams to Offer CPO Training

Privacy Council and the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University this week announced the creation of a chief privacy officer training program at the school.

"We're trying to reach out to as many people as we can, because obviously privacy is something that requires knowledge of many issues and processes," said Gary Clayton, CEO of Privacy Council, Dallas, which provides privacy consulting, education and technology solutions for clients worldwide.

"Since this is a first-time program, we expect to further refine the criteria for the future courses and target courses to specific industries such as marketing or financial."

The program is a three-day seminar that includes management issues, technology, and privacy laws and regulations. The first seminar will be March 13 at SMU, Dallas. It will be offered again in July. It costs $1,195 per person, with a 10 percent discount if three or more applications are submitted together.

Although there are no criteria for taking the seminar, the first course will target mid-level to senior executives with a variety of skills.

Privacy Council staff members will teach the program with privacy specialists featured at daily luncheons during the course.

According to Clayton, Privacy Council is talking to other schools in the United States as well as in Europe and Asia about hosting similar courses.
