United Airlines Adds a Dash of Internet Marketing

United Airlines is expected to announce today that it would make a customized toolbar powered by Dash, New York, available to its 38 million Mileage Plus members.

The United dashBar is a software tool that offers links to 130 stores on the Web as well as discounts and real-time alerts of special offers from United Airlines.

Users will be able to earn free miles for participating. They will earn 500 for downloading the tool at dash.com/united and another 500 miles for making their first transaction. For making purchases at sites such as Buy.com, Dell.com and JCPenney.com, they will earn 11 miles for each dollar spent.

Users also can access flight status, fares and mileage summaries through the toolbar.
