TripAdvisor names Messing CMO

Travel website TripAdvisor.com has hired Barbara Messing as its CMO, the company said February 23.

Messing will lead TripAdvisor's global marketing, including its CRM, SEM, traffic acquisition, mobile partnerships, brand development and experience, and PR. TripAdvisor.com's management page does not list a previous CMO.

Messing previously served as VP and general manager of Hotwire's Travel Ticker site during her nine-year tenure at Hotwire. Expedia Inc. owns and operates both TripAdvisor and Hotwire. Messing has also worked for the Travel Channel.

“I look forward to continuing to push the envelope in 2011, as we look to deliver exciting new offerings for our global community of more than 40 million monthly travelers,” she said in a statement.

Calls seeking comment to both TripAdvisor and Hotwire were not immediately returned.
