Tribune Co. Boss FitzSimons Recovering from Cancer Surgery

Tribune Co., publisher of the Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times newspapers, said chairman/CEO Dennis FitzSimons is recovering from successful prostrate cancer surgery performed July 31.

Mr. FitzSimons is expected to return to work before the end of the month. Tribune Co.'s management team is expected to run the company until Mr. FitzSimons' return.

Tribune is under pressure from the Chandler family trusts, former owners of the Los Angeles Times and now the No. 2 shareholder in Tribune Co. Mr. FitzSimons is not yielding to calls from the Chandlers to sell the publisher's non-performing assets.
