Trenton Postal Site Gets Fumigation for Anthrax tomorrow
The U.S. Postal Service plans to begin fumigation of the Trenton Processing and Distribution Center tomorrow.The facility in Hamilton Township, NJ, has been closed since Oct. 18, 2001, after it was contaminated by anthrax spores released by letters processed there.
Since the facility's closure, the USPS has successfully decontaminated Washington's Curseen-Morris Processing and Distribution Center, which was similarly contaminated by two of the letters that moved through the Trenton facility.
Meanwhile, the House Committee on Government Reform holds a hearing today to examine the status of the planned reopening of the Curseen-Morris Center next month.
Witnesses include Bernard L. Unger, director, physical infrastructure issues, comptroller general, U.S. General Accounting Office; Thomas Day, vice president of engineering, USPS; and Mike Reid, assistant legislative director, American Postal Workers Union.
