Trade Group Readies Mail Fraud DatabaseThe Business Mailing Data Center Inc., a trade association that works with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to prevent postal fraud, debuts a mail-order fraud database for members in January.
The organization represents 16 companies, including Gillette, Bayer, Eastman Kodak Co., Unilever United States, The Walgreen Co. and Cosmetique. It is administered by the Promotion Marketing Association, New York.
Members will be able to query questionable addresses of people who may have committed mail-order fraud, including credit card scams and non-delivery and non-receipt fraud. The data is shared amongst BMDC members and the Postal Inspection Service.
BMDC said that its rebate fraud database, which has been available since 1997, has helped the organization find thousands of fraudulent people yearly.
