Toyota Tests Online Sales

Toyota Motor Sales, Seattle, yesterday said it will test an Internet retailing program in the Pacific Northwest.

The retail model partners the Western Washington Toyota Dealer Advertising Association with the manufacturer.

The test program will use a retail-oriented Web site to sell Toyota vehicles directly to consumers over the Internet. Tools will be available online at buytoyota.com to consumers so they can plan to purchase or lease a vehicle.

Currently, Toyota's Web site allows consumers to research and locate dealerships but not buy directly online.

Dealerships in the Pacific Northwest will supply cars for the program. If the program succeeds, Toyota will expand it under the same brand to other markets across the country.
