This National Geographic is for you

National Geographic is jumping on the user-created/special-order magazine train with a special edition title called National Geographic Your Shot.

The one-off magazine features 101 user-submitted photographs, culled from entries that the magazine has solicited since 2006. Consumers can start ordering the special title online from ngm.com/your-shot-special Monday, June 15, and, for an extra $9 can choose their own cover photo. Your Shot hits newsstands June 30- obviously without the customization option.

The move reflects an ongoing "customer is king" trend in print media: Time Inc. launched Mine - a custom magazine that featured user-selected content from many of its holdings - earlier this year, and This Old House magazine recently ran its second annual user-created issue.
