System Works to Improve Efficiency of Portals

Agilent Technologies Inc., Fort Collins, CO, Tuesday announced its Firehunter/e-Commerce system designed to measure the efficiency of Web portals by estimating how much time each viewer spends at every part of their storefronts.

Larry Robinson, product manager at Agilent, said the program gives an Internet portal the ability to offer accurate speed-of-performance analysis for the retail sites it hosts. By narrowing down time spent per visitor at every section of a site, he said, a portal can break down which online departments are working smoothly and which are losing customers because of unwarranted delays.

Robinson said the system would expose technical problems, regarding areas such as coding, as well as revealing creative miscues in Web design. He also said collecting this information would become a contractual bargaining tool because portals that use Firehunter/e-Commerce will have proof of quality performance statistics to lure prospective partners.

The program starts at $20,000 and plugs into only Agilent's broader e-commerce service system Firehunter Pro, which starts at $35,000.
