Sun Microsystems Inc. and PeopleSoft Inc. have formed a strategic alliance to deliver a scalable, Internet-ready customer relationship management solution to serve the communications and brokerage industries.

The global alliance will offer PeopleSoft's integrated enterprise CRM solution on Sun's Solaris 8 Operating Environment and Java technology-based platforms. Sun and PeopleSoft will engage in joint sales, services and go-to-market activities.

Sun, Palo Alto, CA, and PeopleSoft, Pleasanton, CA, are focused on allowing brokerages and communications companies to reduce implementation time; lower total cost of ownership; ease integration; and improve customer service, retention and profitability.

For example, both companies said, the joint solution allows communications companies -- including wireless, broadband and satellite providers -- to differentiate themselves with faster product launches, superior customer information and more effective targeted marketing.

The companies also will collaborate on engineering efforts and will work with customers in Sun's iForce Ready Center locations to develop architecture blueprints in an enterprise lab environment. PeopleSoft Consulting, Sun Professional Services and leading system integrators will provide skilled, rapid and cost-effective implementations.
