Staples Gets Ready for Back to School with Humorous Commercials

Office supply retailer Staples Inc. will attempt to lure back-to-school shoppers with a humorous ad campaign.

The Framingham, MA-based retailer launched its back to school advertising campaign, with commercials that mirror the company's earlier, "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and "Easy Button."

McCann Erickson created the new 30- and 15-second commercials, titled "Spatula" and "Bills". They are a comic play on the joys felt by parents and the sorrows felt by children when September comes around.

In the commercial, parents view the annual rite of passage of their children going back-to-school as the "Most Wonderful Time of the Year." Then, an easy button is pressed, and the children are instantly transformed into neat, organized students ready for the school year, despite their engagement in summer fun.

Throughout the spots, viewers see Staples' latest back-to-school products.

The commercials began airing nationally on Sun., July 30.
