Staples Enters Taiwan Market

Staples Inc. announced a joint venture with an office supplies business in Taiwan, establishing a platform for the office supplies multichannel merchant to enter this region of the world.

The deal is with UB Office Systems and one of its business units, UB Express, which delivers office supplies in Taiwan. UB Express provides next-day delivery to corporate customers, who place orders via catalog and online, and include government agencies, large financial institutions and multinational firms. The partnership combines UB's local expertise with Staples' global procurement strength, Staples said in a statement.

The office product market in Taiwan is estimated at $2.5 billion, according to Framingham, MA-based Staples.
