SR.Teleperformance Buys Mexico's Merkafon

French teleservices giant SR.Teleperformance yesterday announced that it signed a deal to buy Monterrey, Mexico, call center agency Merkafon.

Merkafon will change its name to Merkafon-Teleperformance. Financial details were not released.

Merkafon operates 1,674 workstations in two call centers in Monterrey and Plano, TX. The company generates much of its revenue from marketing projects targeting the U.S. Hispanic population.

More than 50 percent of Merkafon's revenue, which the company projects will exceed $60 million in 2002, is derived from financial services clients. Other industries Merkafon serves include telecommunications and IT.

The agency maintains an in-house database of about 12 million qualified addresses. Merkafon also operates fulfillment facilities.
