Spiegel Group Forms Third-Party Global Logistics Venture

The Spiegel Group has entered the third-party logistics market, partnering with Hermes General Service USA to form Spiegel-Hermes General Service LLC, Spiegel officials said yesterday.

The newly formed group will offer services that include distribution and fulfillment, return processing, liquidation, and call center and credit card services. In addition, the group will provide database management and marketing; catalog development and production; and product sourcing services.

The joint venture will allow Spiegel, Downers Grove, IL, to provide a full range of services to clients, said Michael R. Moran, chairman of the office of the president for the catalog retailer.

The new group also has entered into a service provider alliance with Newgistics Inc., a business-to-business supply-chain management company.

Hermes General is a subsidiary of Otto Versand, Hamburg, Germany, a mail-order corporation with 83 companies in Europe, Asia and North America.

The Spiegel Group's businesses include Eddie Bauer, Newport News and Spiegel catalogs.
