*Speaker Highlights Cataloging's Strength

STAMFORD, CT -- Traditional catalog marketing is as strong as ever, according to the keynote speaker at MeritDirect's first Business Mailer Co-op and E-Commerce Marketing Conference here yesterday.

"We are seeing a return to entrepreneurial cataloging," said keynote speaker Donald R. Libey, president of Libey-Concordia, Haddon Heights, NJ, an investment banking firm specializing in the catalog industry.

He attributed the revival of traditional direct mail prospecting to the recent "dot-com washout," though he noted that the combination of cataloging and e-commerce is a winner. "E-commerce is an adjunct to cataloging; it's the basic cataloging that's causing it to work," Libey said. He also predicted that the prospecting trend would continue.
