SpamCon Foundation Opens for Business

Anti-spam organization SpamCon Foundation officially opened for business yesterday. The organization, which seeks to protect e-mail as a communications and marketing vehicle, was announced in June.

The SpamCon Foundation, San Francisco, is the brainchild of Tom Geller, founder of the anti-spam organization The Suespammers Project and director of industry affairs at the Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial E-Mail. The organization's Web site is Geller is president and executive of SpamCon Foundation.

"Spam has grown partly because users, network administrators and responsible marketers have fought it in different ways, even when their ultimate goals are the same," Geller said.

He noted that the organization has a database of more than 7,000 media stories about spam, spanning the past four years. The database was set up in cooperation with Spam News and can be accessed at SpamCon Foundation also has incorporated The Suespammers Project's legal resources, created e-mail discussion groups about e-mail marketing issues, and developed a collaborative relationship with Internet administrators and marketers to begin addressing the issue of spam.
