Yahoo is suing Facebook for allegedly infringing on 10 patents, according to a complaint filed on Mar. 12 with the U.S. District Court in San Jose, California. Four of the patents in question relate to methods and technology for advertising, while others relate to privacy, customizing user experiences, social networking and instant messaging.

Facebook has acquired location-based social network Gowalla, both companies said Dec. 5. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The anticipation is palpable ahead of tomorrow's annual Facebook developer conference, f8, with various, breathless media reports that the indomitable social net will unveil a platform enabling users to share their favorite music, TV shows and movies, effectively making your profile page a "primary entertainment hub," as The New York Times put it. Reports have Facebook partnering with music-sharing sites like Spotify, Mog and Rhapsody and video sites Hulu and Netflix.
About a month ago, I wrote about my frustration with Netflix's brazen price increase and the movie rental company's subsequent indifference to fan outrage. In the piece, I explain why a la carte rental companies like Vudu might ultimately win over Netflix consumers. Yesterday I was pleased to read that Miramax has added another industry alternative to Netflix's restrictive and expensive membership plans.
When Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook would announce something "awesome" on July 6, he wasn't fooling much of the media that covers him. (You know your company has clout when the media covers an announcement of an upcoming announcement). Report after report predicted that Facebook would integrate Skype video chat and, thanks to TechCrunch.com, the rumor has finally been confirmed.
