If your promoted posts and tweets aren't asking for the sale today, maybe it's not too late to change your copy. A study of companies with more than 400 customer shares a day shows that, though more social networkers share branded content on Tuesdays and Thursdays than any other day of the week, Monday is the day most likely for those referrals to pay off in the form of new business.

Extole, which provides social media metrics for marketers, tracked hundreds of thousands of shares, clicks, and conversions and learned that Mondays win the week in conversions per share at 5%. Tuesdays and Thursdays attained 4.5%.

Weekends turned up the lowest rates of shares, clicks, and conversions, while Wednesdays and Fridays maintained average numbers.

“All this goes to show that while the referral marketing channel drives purchase, your program isn't something to simply set up and ignore,” says Extole VP Marketing Chris Duskin. “There are lots of opportunities to optimize your program, including taking into account when the most sharing happens and when that sharing converts the most purchases.”
