Sitel Unveils Panamanian Venture

Teleservices firm Sitel Corp. is expanding into the Central American market in a partnership deal announced yesterday with communications provider Cable & Wireless Panama.

The two companies signed a letter of intent to build a 400-workstation contact center in Panama City. Using Sitel's contact center expertise, Cable & Wireless Panama will construct the facility, then outsource its operations to Sitel.

The contact center will provide teleservices for Cable & Wireless Panama customers. Its duties will include customer care, technical support and inbound and outbound sales.

Under the multiyear agreement, the two companies may use the facility to provide teleservices for other companies in Central America. Further terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Sitel said it would initially staff the facility with 300 employees. The facility can expand to as many as 700 workstations.
