Sitel Cuts 120 at Georgia Center

Teleservices provider Sitel, Omaha, NE, will cut 120 employees from its call center in Savannah, GA, by the end of the year, citing changes and reductions in calling programs by some of the company's clients.


The center employed about 600 prior to the cutbacks, Sitel spokesman Bill Sims said. In some cases, clients asked to switch work being done at the Savannah center to another location, he said.


However, the clients may bring some of the work back in the future, and then some of the cut employees might be asked to return, Sims said. The national no-call list was not cited as a cause of the cutbacks.


In Lubbock, TX, local television news organizations reported the closure of a West Corp. call center with 440 employees, and local government officials cited the no-call list as a reason for the closure. West did not return a phone call for comment on the report.
