Singer Direct Marks Silver Anniversary

It was 25 years ago yesterday that Singer Direct Marketing opened its doors as an insert media brokerage company that has since grown into a full-service media agency.

After a 15-year career on the client side of the direct marketing industry with companies such as Columbia Record Club, Longines Symphonette and Berkey Photo, Fred Singer started the company at his wife's urging.

"Although my wife, Sheila, was always asking me to start my own business, she was not prepared for that day when I came home from work and announced, 'I quit my job and am about to start my own business,'" said Singer Direct founder/CEO Fred Singer.

The company, which began in the couple's home with only the two of them as employees, is now headquartered in Scarsdale, NY, and has grown to a staff of 35. Over the years, it moved into insert media management, Internet marketing and most recently added a consumer packaged goods division.
