Sharper Image taps Alliance for e-mail and financial work

In its latest move to revive the brand, Sharper Image has signed a multiyear agreement with Alliance Data Systems Corp. and its Epsilon subsidiary for a private label credit card program and e-mail marketing services.

The credit card program will include account acquisition, statement generation and electronic bill presentment services. A loyalty and reward offering will include discounts, invitations to in-store events and other exclusive offers.

The deal with Epsilon will help Sharper Image develop targeted, permission-based e-mail marketing campaigns designed to acquire and retain customers and generate increased sales through up-sell opportunities.

Ragy Thomas, president of the interactive services group at Epsilon, said the move “is about targeted communication and better program results.”

The electronics direct marketer has also added a licensing division and improved its merchandise selection since turnaround specialist Jerry W. Levin was named chairman of the company after founder Richard Thalheimer left in the fall of 2006.
