More than 60 percent of all Web advertising for May and June fell into the Internet services and shopping categories, Web audience measurement firm NetRatings reported recently in its Online Observer Report. Promotions advertising also jumped from 255 million impressions in May to more than 400 million in June.

Other findings show that the five most viewed banner ads for the week of July 19-26 were Hotmail: Bookmark Hotmail to save typing; Goto.com; Catalog Link; Hotmail: Click banners; easy return to Hotmail; and Hotmail: Make Hotmail your home page. During that same time period the average Web user viewed 336 pages; spent 5.5 hours on the Web; and had an average of nine sessions.
