Server Is Built for E-Commerce

SGI Global Services, Mountain View, CA, has launched its Internet Server appliance with multiple e-commerce features.

Most of the features stem from a software agreement the firm struck with MercanTec Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

MercanTec, Naperville, IL, has added applications such as a search engine, sales reporting tools and shopping cart tax calculation to the server. In addition, the payment system does not require repeat customers to give their payment information again.

On the back end, inventory and marketing managers can download daily transaction reports, which can be made available at a secured Web page.

Marketers can use the product database offered in the server or can use other databases. All software is compatible with other e-commerce applications using HTML.

The server is targeted at small businesses and costs $4,495.
