Salesforce.com to use D&B files for Data.com

CRM company Salesforce.com has launched recently acquired domain Data.com as a corporate-data site. Business information company Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) is the site's exclusive source of corporate information, providing approximately 200 million records that will be integrated with already-existing personal contact information within the Salesforce CRM product.

Data.com is available with contacts and corporate information from Salesforce.com product Jigsaw. Company data from D&B will be available on the site this fall with pricing and packaging announced then, according to a company statement.

Salesforce.com acquired the Data.com domain name in June, although it did not initially disclose its intentions for the site.

“We know that poor data quality is a concern for all our customers,” said Shannon Duffy, senior director of Jigsaw marketing at Salesforce.com. “When it comes down to data, it's all about contact data and company data. D&B is the gold standard with more than 200 million contacts. They were the obvious choice for us to partner with.”

Salesforce.com did not use an official RFP or search process to select D&B. Salesforce.com was already familiar with the company as the result of a partial-reseller agreement with Jigsaw that began in 2009 for a "small" amount of data, said Duffy.

Salesforce.com reported $546 million in revenue in the second quarter of fiscal 2012, a 38% year-over-year increase. However, the company also saw a slight net loss of $4.3 million in the period.

In June, it revealed plans for its new corporate headquarters. A month earlier, it announced a partnership with Toyota Motor Corp. to launch "Toyota Friend," a private social network using social marketing tool Salesforce Chatter, in Japan with electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
