The United Nations World Food Programme, the international community's frontline agency in fighting hunger, has deployed Salesforce to improve the management of its donor relations activities in Asia.

The announcement was made by the Salesforce.com Foundation (www.salesforcefoundation.org), an organization that integrates philanthropy and business. The San Francisco-based Salesforce.com Foundation currently has more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations around the globe using donated Salesforce product.

Headquartered in Rome, Italy, the UN World Food Programme ( www.wfp.org ) provides food to over 90 million people around the world each year, with efforts focused in regions where natural and manmade disasters have severely restricted people's access to food.

In 2005 the World Food Programme started private sector fundraising operations in Asia. Launching a new effort, uniting a geographically dispersed team while simultaneously being responsive to growing interest from new donors, the UN World Food Programme in Asia faced challenges to efficiently capture, track and optimize donor opportunities.

In January 2006, the Salesforce.com Foundation provided the UN World Food Programme with its SFA solution on a pro-bono basis for deployment across Asia. Using the solution, the organization has cut down the average cycle closure significantly, eliminated reporting tasks that took donor officers away from focusing on new opportunities.

The UN World Food Programme is evaluating Salesforce for use on a global basis.
