R.R. Donnelley Posts 14.2% Sales Gain for Q3

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. said yesterday that sales totaled $2.2 billion in the third quarter, a 14.2 percent increase over last year. The Chicago-based full-service printer's operating income was $236.1 million for the quarter.

The company's publishing and retail services segment, which includes its magazine, catalog, retail, directories and book businesses, posted a 12.9 percent sales gain, totaling $1.1 billion.

The integrated print communications segment, which includes Donnelley's direct mail business, generated a 30 percent gain in sales, totaling $675.3 million. The increase was mainly because of the acquisition of the Astron Group and sales growth in its dynamic communication solutions and North American direct mail businesses.

Sales for the forms and labels segment decreased 2.5 percent to $408.2 million.
