Report: Chadwick's Lays Off 130

Apparel and home cataloger Chadwick's laid off 130 employees, according to the Nov. 7 edition of The Taunton (MA) Gazette.


The Gazette reported that Marco Pereira, president of UNITE 2001 -- the union representing Chadwick's workers -- said there will be 420 workers in Taunton and 87 in the West Bridgewater plant after the layoffs.


He told the newspaper that "everyone there has known for some time its catalog business has been sluggish. There isn't enough work."


He said Brylane L.P., Chadwick's parent company, is considering bringing a kitchen line into Taunton from Indiana.
