Register.com Closes NYC Call Center

Internet address provider Register.com closed its New York customer support call center after opening a new center in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The company cut 19 full-time and seven part-time employees as a result of the New York facility's closure. Register.com has hired 127 people for its new Nova Scotia facility and stands to win $4.6 million Canadian from Canada's government if it hires 300 or more people.

A Register.com spokeswoman said employees of the New York facility were aware that the opening of the Canadian call center, announced in April, would lead to layoffs.
