Reed Elsevier to Buy Pharmaceutical Data Provider

Anglo-Dutch publisher Reed Elsevier has entered into an agreement to acquire online pharmaceutical data provider Gold Standard Inc., the company said yesterday.


Terms of the deal were not disclosed and are subject to U.S. regulatory approval.


Gold Standard Inc., Tampa, FL, provides online products, services and solutions to the healthcare market. Its staff of 83 develops drug information databases, software and clinical information solutions based on expertise in pharmacy practice, electronic publishing and software development.


Hospitals, retail pharmacy chains, consultant pharmacy organizations, health information Web sites, pharmacy/medical schools, healthcare professionals and consumers use Gold Standard's drug information, according to the announcement.


Russ Thomas, CEO of Gold Standard joined Gold Standard in 2000 and will continue to lead the company, Reed Elsevier said.
