RealNetworks to Provide Ad Service for Live Internet Broadcasts

RealNetworks Inc., Seattle, said yesterday it plans to begin providing an advertising-insertion service for live Internet television and radio broadcasts through its Real Broadcast Network.

Broadcasters will be able to use its RealServer 7.0 to insert ads into live TV and radio programming on the Internet.

The Ackerley Group, a media company based in Seattle, will begin using the service May 1 through www.rochestertoday.com/real, the Web site of WOKR-TV, an ABC affiliate station in Rochester, NY.

The first two radio stations deploying the service will be ABC Radio's WKHX in Atlanta at www.wkhx.com and BroadcastAmerica.com's KAAK in Grand Falls, MT, at www.broadcastamerica.com.

RealNetworks provides streaming media and multimedia services on the Internet. Its Real Broadcast Network serves more than 350 radio stations and 30 television stations and cable networks.
