RealNetworks Acquires Software Firm

Streaming media company RealNetworks, Seattle, announced yesterday it has acquired Internet download and utility management software developer Netzip Inc. in exchange for approximately 1.7 million shares of stock.


Netzip's two co-founders, Boris Jerkunica, CEO, and Phil Hill, vice president of marketing, will join RealNetworks and continue to oversee the Netzip business, the companies said in a joint statement.


RealNetworks will relocate Netzip headquarters from Atlanta to Seattle, and the majority of Netzip employees will join RealNetworks, the firms said.


Also, RealNetworks said it will distribute Netzip products to 95 million unique registered RealPlayer users and more than 22 million unique registered RealJukebox users, and the more than 500,000 unique users who the company claims go to the Real.com Web sites each day.
