Quebecor Reaches Deals With Albertsons, Simon & Schuster

Commercial print firm Quebecor World Inc. announced a three-year, $150 million contract yesterday to print a weekly advertising insert program for food and drug retail chain Albertsons.

The agreement expands Quebecor's existing relationship with Albertsons in which the print firm produced 20 percent of the retailer's ad inserts. Quebecor now will print a majority of Albertsons inserts, about 40 million weekly, Quebecor said.

Quebecor facilities in Arizona, British Columbia, California, Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Tennessee will print the inserts. Albertsons, Boise, ID, is a $38 million company with 2,300 retail outlets in 22 states. Its brands include Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme, Sav-on Drugs, Osco Drug, Albertsons-Osco, Albertsons-Sav-on, Max Foods and Super Saver.

Quebecor World, Greenwich, CT, also announced a $230 million contract to print book titles for publisher Simon & Schuster. The printer will use its facilities in Buffalo, NY; Fairfield, CT; and Martinsburg, WV, to fulfill the contract.
