Prudential Shuts Center, Outsources to Sitel

Prudential Financial has shut down a customer service call center in Plymouth, MN, and will outsource the work to teleservices agency Sitel, the financial services firm said yesterday.

Prudential laid off 224 workers. A Prudential spokeswoman said the company closed the facility to cut costs.

A spokeswoman for Sitel declined comment.

Sitel, Baltimore, is an international teleservices provider operating 72 call centers in nine countries. The company recently gained a contract to provide inbound telephone support for the taxing authority of Spain and added five years to its contract to provide inbound teleservices to the regional Flemish government of Belgium.
