Priceline To Expand Insurance Offerings

Priceline.com said yesterday it will soon offer auto insurance on its site. The new service will be offered through a joint venture with W.R. Berkley Corp. and will allow customers to name their own price for auto insurance.

The service, priceline.com Auto Insurance Agency Inc., will pay priceline an annual licensing fee based on generated revenues. W.R. Berkley will oversee the underwriting and recruit other car insurers to participate in the program.

The companies said they expect to offer auto insurance early next year. Priceline also said it plans to begin offering term life insurance by the end of 2000.
