Stepping up its e-commerce efforts, home furnishings retailer Williams-Sonoma Inc. yesterday opened an online store for its Pottery Barn Kids brand.

The site, Potterybarnkids.com, will offer products in the baby and children's categories, including windows, rugs, furniture, bedding and other gift products. Consumers can shop by age, gender, room or gift interest.

Potterybarnkids.com debuts two-and-a-half years after Williams-Sonoma, San Francisco, started the Pottery Barn Kids catalog. The first retail store opened last September in Southern California.

In all, there are 11 Pottery Barn Kids stores nationwide, with plans for 15 more by year's end. More than 30 million Pottery Barn Kids catalogs a year are dropped to U.S. consumers.

Williams-Sonoma sells online, offline and through catalogs for Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn. It also owns Hold Everything, Chambers and Pottery Barn Bed + Bath. Overall, it has more than 380 stores nationwide and six catalogs.
