Postmasters Plan Rally For Universal Service

More than 1,300 postmasters are expected to travel to Capitol Hill the week of March 22 to urge Congress to support universal postal service.

The effort, which is being promoted by the 42,000-member National Association of Postmasters of the United States, will close with a rally March 24 at the Capitol.

Confirmed speakers include Senate Governmental Affairs Committee chairwoman Susan Collins, R-ME; Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-NY; Sen. Arlen Specter, R-PA; Sen. Tom Carper, D-DE; House Government Reform Committee chairman Tom Davis, R-VA; House Special Panel on Postal Reform and Oversight chairman John McHugh, R-NY; House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, D-MD; and Rep. Danny Davis, D-IL.

Among those scheduled to address the postmasters at a March 22 event at Marriott Crystal Gateway Hotel in Arlington, VA, are postmaster general John E. Potter, U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors chairman David Fineman and Brian Roseboro, acting undersecretary of the Treasury.
