USPS Expands Global Express Mail In Europe

Share this content:
The U.S. Postal Service said that beginning March 29, Global Express Mail customers will receive better service and more detailed and accurate tracking in eight additional European countries.

The improvements come as a result of expanded delivery of GEM -- from six to 14 countries -- by Royal Mail Group's Pan-European parcel delivery company, General Logistics Systems.

The eight additional countries joining the network are: Belgium, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, San Marino, Switzerland and Vatican City. Those countries join Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden, which are already covered by the agreement.

The USPS signed a deal with Royal Mail in 2001, whereby the USPS sends all Global Express Mail -- and Global Air Parcel Post packages in 23 Europe countries -- to Frankfurt, where Royal Mail takes delivery. GLS is then responsible for delivering the packages throughout Europe. The partnership lets the USPS use a single point of contact for Europe.
