Perry Judd's Spends $25 Million on New Press, Bindery Line

Perry Judd's Inc., Waterloo, WI, has announced a $25 million expansion of press and bindery capabilities. The company will install a Heidelberg M-3000 press in its Baraboo, WI, plant, along with three high-speed bindery lines in its Waterloo and Strasburg, VA, publication plants.

"These investments will enable Perry Judd's customers to reduce cycle time while increasing our capacity to serve new customers in both the catalog and publication segments of the printing industry,'' president and CEO Craig Hutchison said. "The impetus for this action is the addition of significant new customers to our plant volumes.''

This is the second M-3000 installed at the company's Baraboo division. The 54-inch web, eight-unit press can produce more than 100,000 48-page forms per hour. Perry Judd's produces catalogs for Miles Kimball, J.C. Penney, Carol Wright Gifts, Black Box and National Business Furniture, among others.

The bindery expansion at the Waterloo and Strasburg divisions will include three 28-pocket, fully selective, SP-1000 saddle stitchers. The SP-1000 can produce 20,000 copies per hour. The Waterloo division produces magazines for Time Inc., McGraw-Hill and Ziff-Davis. The Strasburg division also produces for Newsweek, Kiplinger, Natural History and Veranda.
