The National Association of Letter Carriers approved a new contract with the U.S. Postal Service last week.

The contract includes wage increases of 7.1 percent retroactive to Nov. 17, 2001, and running through Nov. 20, 2006. The contract also calls for semi-annual cost-of-living adjustments and changes to grievance and arbitration procedures.

The NALC represents all city delivery letter carriers employed by the U.S. Postal Service in the 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions. The settlement is the last to be completed with the post office's four major unions.
