Europeans are flocking to adult Web sites in record numbers, according to a study published by NetValue, a leading European Internet research company.

The study, which surveyed Web behavior in five European countries, found that Germans spent the most time on porn sites while Spanish adult-content surfers accounted for the largest percentage of national online populations -- 38.8 percent.

Almost 3.8 million German Internet users visited explicit sites for the longest average time period per user per month -- 70.4 minutes. More than 1 million Spaniards stayed an average of 66.7 minutes.

The British spent the shortest average time surfing smut -- 36.7 minutes. Danes and the French spent an average of 45 minutes. Young men make up the bulk of porn surfers.

European women make up an average of 20 percent of all sex site visitors, staying an average of 12 minutes. Numbers are higher in the United Kingdom, where almost 30 percent of porn surfers are females. They also stay a little longer in the UK - 13 minutes.

In France, people between 50 and 64 years old spend the most time watching porn -- 125 minutes each month. They account for 11 percent of all sex surfers. Time spent drops rapidly after age 65 to an average of 23 minutes monthly. The percentage also drops to 4.5 percent.

In the UK, 50- to- 64-year-olds spend the longest time on these sites but stay less than half as long as the French do. The 15-to-24 age group spends only 18 minutes each month compared with 66 minutes in Germany and Spain.

Porncity.net, an English-language site, ranks among the top 10 in all five countries. It is No. 1 in Germany, No. 2 in Denmark and No. 3 in France. The site offers free hosting to 50,000 Webmasters and claims 5 million worldwide viewers daily.

Sexshare.com, which ranks first, second and third in the UK, France and Germany, respectively, is a California-based sex-hosting company with strict rules and regulations for those who use its services, including abrupt termination for bestiality and underage sex.
