Pitney Bowes Offers Additional Security

Pitney Bowes unveiled a new mail-handling process yesterday that offers mailers three tiers of security to help businesses decide which level is appropriate for them.

The three tiers of the Secure Mail offering include:

· Secure, in which all deliveries are sent through a centralized screening process to prevent unauthorized individuals from making deliveries, and each package receives an "inspected" stamp;

· Advanced, which includes all the features of the Secure offering, plus on-side X-ray screening;

· Premium, the highest level designed for government, military and security-sensitive industries, offers the options of having packages opened and inspected onsite or offsite, having mail scanned electronically and then delivered as an e-mail, and cleansing mail through the use of a steam autoclave.

The Secure Mail mail-processing system is already in use by United Illuminating, GE Capital, Kraft Foods, Merrill Lynch and IBM, according to Pitney Bowes, Stamford, CT.
