Pets.com Gets $50M, Boosts Marketing Efforts

Pets.com, San Francisco, an online provider of pet products, information and services, this week announced that it has secured $50 million in its second round of financing from Amazon.com, Bowman Capital and Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, which the company will use to fund a national marketing campaign.

Pets.com's entire shopping process, from order fulfillment to customer service, is managed inhouse.

The company recently opened its first distribution center in San Francisco to accommodate more products and to speed shipping. It has also hired a customer service staff and has added a toll-free customer service phone number (888/321-Pets) for customers who wish to place orders or who would like additional information.
